Enjoy a decadent, brain food–inspired dinner before interacting with our dynamic and talented guest speaker, Christa Greenfader, PhD. Executive function skills act as the brain's "air traffic controller," allowing children to learn how to focus goals, plan ahead, and get things done throughout their life. Dr. Greenfader's current work considers the relationship between language and executive function, especially in children learning multiple languages. Her presentation will be engaging and interactive, and relevant for adults too!

Dr. Christa Greenfader is an assistant professor of child and adolescent studies at California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Greenfader’s research focuses on environments that help children acquire and improve language skills as well as other cognitive competencies and how these processes relate. The majority of Dr. Greenfader’s work is with children who come from homes where English is not the primary language (English learners). She was recently involved in a large-scale experimental study that determined a positive impact of arts activities on the speaking abilities of English learners—findings presented at the Society of Research in Child Development and published in three acclaimed journals. Dr. Greenfader’s current work considers the relationship between language and executive function (cognitive skills related to self-regulatory behaviors, attentional flexibility, and working memory), and how these relate in children tasked with learning two languages.
Dr. Greenfader received a PhD in education from the University of California, Irvine, an MBA from California State University, Northridge, and she has a BM in violin performance from the University of Southern California. She continues to oversee violin enrichment programs for the largest afterschool program in Los Angeles.
