MUSEUM OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

Educating People about Education since 2007

ABOUT MOTAL
MOTAL’s Mission: To educate people about education

The Museum of Teaching and Learning (MOTAL) has established a record of award-winning and trustworthy exhibitions about topics in the field of education, filling a unique niche in the museum world. MOTAL creates mobile exhibitions to bring questions and answers about teaching and learning to the public. We’ve all been to school, but do we know the answers to the kinds of questions that MOTAL asks?
  • Who were the pioneers in the fight for educational equality?
  • How does our educational system compare with the systems in other countries?
  • How do people learn?
Because education plays a critical role in a democracy, the museum shines a light on the people, places, policies and events that have shaped education through time, as well as highlighting educational policies and practices, and their outcomes. Democracy thrives when teaching and learning prepare people for work, civic responsibility, parenting, and societal change.
MOTAL’s Reach

The exhibitions, artifact collection, and articles are designed with the general public in mind. Students, educators, and scholars of all ages are key visitors to our exhibitions. Unique visitor populations (e.g., college students, lawyers) can expand or contract based on the venue (e.g., colleges, courthouses). Exhibitions have been in museum exhibition rooms, courthouses, government offices, public schools, and college libraries. There is considerable exposure to the ideas celebrated in the exhibitions among those who visit as interested guests, and those who are drawn to particular programs offered to deepen the exhibition experience (school curriculum, lectures, videos, and celebratory events).  You can get more information by visiting our PROGRAMS PAGE.

MOTAL is home to a growing collection of educational artifacts with stories waiting to be shared. These artifacts will be preserved for research and a continuous record of the changing world for future generations.

MOTAL's articles are presented to enlighten, educate, inspire, and tell stories for all ages.  They represent the past, present and future of learning.

The Museum of Teaching and Learning is intended to have broad appeal. Not all exhibitions are for all ages, but individuals from 9 to 109 will be able to learn something new and exciting!  All museums are places where learning takes place. The Museum of Teaching and Learning educates people about education. Visitors learn about everything from art to zippers and from baseball to Spam.

Our headquarters and mini museum are located at 1111 E. Commonwealth, Unit C, Fullerton, CA 92831. Our mini-museum is open to visitors by appointment. For information on the schedule and venues of our major and traveling exhibitions, please see Exhibitions.
