Ways to Share Time and Talents

Dear Readers,

Please help The Museum of Teaching and Learning continue to provide trustworthy public service. Now that the MOTAL “Hub” is opening, all kinds of jobs need to be done. You do not need to be a teacher, professor, or museum expert, but your interest in (and caring for) education ARE important. Let us help you find a fit—from stuffing envelopes, caring for objects, and organizing files, to project leadership, writing, and speaking. We would like to get to know you.

In order to educate people about education, we:
Produce exhibitions
Publish articles and stories
Promote podcasts
Present artifacts
Prepare student interns

Many significant roles and tasks are accomplished by volunteers: 1. legal counsel 2. CEO 3. event planning 4. emcee 5. communications director 6. public speaking 7. curriculum development 8. grant writing/development 9. mailings 10. artifact accession 11. membership 12. volunteer coordination 13. docents 14. volunteer training. 15. project management 16. graphic design 17. event decoration 18. auction preparation

MOTAL has also hired independent contractors to do many kinds of work, providing economic impact within local communities. However, most of these jobs could also be performed by volunteers! 1. office management  2. clerical  3. bookkeeping  4. social media 5. scholarly research 6. writing 7. editing  8. graphic design  9. exhibition design 10. printing 11. carpentry 12. speaking 13. social media 14. public relations  15. packing/shipping 16. Truck driving 17. exhibition installation and de-installation  18. Photography 19. website design and maintenance.

The museum must also pay businesses for extended support: truck rental, restaurants/caterers, FedEx, event venues, and advertising.

Most importantly, the MOTAL Board of Directors consists of volunteers who actually contribute sustaining amounts for the privilege of providing policy, procedural and fiduciary guidance.​
