On Sunday, August 6th, the MOTAL team hosted the latest Celeb Salon Dinner. In attendance were all levels of MOTAL stakeholders, members and friends. The honored guest speaker was Dr. Nancy Segal, a leader in her field researching twins from a genetic and sociological perspective.

Guests enjoyed a Mediterranean feast, replete with appetizers, desserts and libations, while also participating in a heated silent auction that drew interest as they hoped to win items ranging from gift cards, gift baskets, to original artwork and more.

Once seated outside, guests were treated to opening remarks by MOTAL President and CEO, Greta Nagel as well as gracious host, Jo Ann Brannock. Maris Ensing and Tony Zorilla from Mad Systems updated members on developments regarding the upcoming Your Baby’s Amazing Brain exhibit, displaying visual models of what the exhibit would look like from the inside and outside. Maris and Tony shared their commitment and excitement to continue the MOTAL-Mad Systems partnership.

Dr. Nancy Segal then took the stage to present on her research in twin studies. Dr. Segal discussed why she was so interested in twins in particular, noting how the bond between twin siblings is unlike any other social or genetic bond in the human race. Dr. Segal affirmed the value in researching twins, as it shores up key insights that better allow us to understand not just twins exclusively, but how our genetic and social conditions affect the ways in which we, as humans, develop and grow. Dr. Segal’s impassioned speech was not just educational, but highly inspiring, and many guests were stirred to ask her questions, eager to hear from her expert insights.

With stimulating conversation, delicious food, joyous laughter, and kind faces, it was a memorable night, which all will cherish. The MOTAL team is committed to providing enriched learning events such as the Celeb Salon, and we encourage all to stay engaged as we develop and produce more events and programming for our growing MOTAL community.

None of this would be possible without community support, so MOTAL would like to express our sincere gratitude to many individuals.
On top of Dr. Segal and all our attendees, we would like to thank the MOTAL Board (Nagel, Deming, Postma, Stewart, Brannock, and Casey) for contributing food and auction items, photographer Donna Edman and artist Jim Dahl for their special auction contributions, Maris and Tony of Mad Systems for their presentation, the individuals who supported the event with underwriting donations (Lucina Moses, Mari-Lynn Reid, Terry Kristiansen, Donna & John Jaecker, Darcy Lewis & Josh Newman, Christina Nagel, and an additional anonymous donor), Laura and Quinn for their kind hospitality checking people in, Norma Ames and Doll Scholars (Oscar Guerrero and Max Eastman), and of course generous host Jo Ann Brannock.
