MOTAL'S Next Podcast Episode 2: The Theater Arts Professor

6/4/2021

Picture
Listeners thoroughly enjoyed the first MOTAL podcast with Assistant High School Principal Elizabeth.  We also want you to know our YouTube channel is now called New Museum of Teaching and Learning. Our previous channel had some problems so now we are starting off NEW and better than ever.

Today the Museum of Teaching and Learning is proud to bring you the
Second of a series of podcast interviews
entitled “Teaching in Times of Covid.”

Thanks to the creativity and persistence of volunteer Denise Steedman, MOTAL now has a fascinating, highly professional, set of historical perspectives to share with the public on the New MOTAL YouTube channel. The museum will save these recordings for posterity as testimony to how educators and families have dealt with the changes and challenges during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our Second Podcast in the Series is:

Denise (“Dee”) could not have done this alone. With the full support of the MOTAL board, the team members featured below have brought this project together. All are talented volunteers.

Denise “Dee” Steedman Project Leader
Throughout the past decade, Denise Steedman has been an enthusiastic supporter of The Museum of Teaching and Learning, attending events, finding special MOTAL exhibit venues, and helping do artifact research and writing. Now Denise has created and executed a fine oral history project that consists of multiple 25-minute podcasts that explore “Teaching in Times of Covid.” The stories will be revealed through interview questions that explore the personal experiences of a wide variety of educators and the families
they serve. Dee designed the questions and serves as the interviewer. She helped find a wide range of interesting participants and worked with a small group of colleagues to purchase the best recording equipment, and find a suitable and safe recording site.
Denise is MOTAL's Volunteer of the Year 2021. She was celebrated along with other volunteers at OneOC’s Spirit of Volunteerism Awards.  To read more about Denise, and this special honor go to this MOTAL Article link The MOTAL Volunteer of the Year!
Eva Postma’s role on the podcast team has been to assist at all pre-recording and recording sessions. She monitors the technology, adjusting for conditions that vary with each new interviewee.

Eva Postma, MOTAL Vice President and Director
Eva was an award-winning classroom teacher and staff development leader in the Ocean View School District for 40 years. Her specialty was teaching kindergarten, first and second grade. She has a a BA in Psychology from CSULB and a masters in Reading from Chapman University.  Eva’s staff development expertise and leadership for the district was in the field of Language Arts strategies and curriculum. She also served as a
mentor teacher to new teachers and she served as a team leader on the Principal's Advisory Committee. Eva was given a top honor as the Ocean View Teacher of the Year in 2003.  Eva recently retired, but continues to teach beginning reading skills to first and second graders in her district. In addition to working with children, Eva enjoys running, biking, gym classes, traveling, and reading.

Mark Noble - Podcasting
In order to assure an archival set of podcasts, MOTAL was fortunate to have the advice and assistance of Mark Noble. His experience In podcasting provided insights to create a portable kit that can travel well but still provide the tools needed to record and save professional quality audio. The recorded files can be imported to a computer and edited for final public release. Mark helped MOTAL select and purchase hardware that would do an excellent job but come in at agreeable pricing. Thanks to Mark’s
research and assistance in setting up for the recording sessions,
MOTAL has microphones with great audio quality and frequency range, windscreens, a digital recorder, cables, headphones, and storage/carrying cases.
Listeners really enjoyed our premier podcast of “Teaching in Times of Covid.”
