Have a Safe and Sane 4th of July​ Important tips and references during COVID-19 gatherings.​

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise, the decisions we make as a community can have significant consequences. We at MOTAL miss our families, friends, and supporters increasingly with each passing day, but we also hold a responsibility to protect ourselves and others. Heading into the holiday weekend it may be tempting to loosen up and return to a sense of normalcy but we hope you will all stay safe and choose your activities wisely!  
We have collected a list of important tips and references to consider throughout this weekend. 

• While outdoor gatherings are preferable, the virus can still spread outdoors. 
• Smaller gatherings are safer!  
• Encourage guests to stay home if they are feeling unwell. 
• Keep a list of guests in case it is needed for contact tracing to limit the spread. 
• Ensure and encourage proper hand hygiene - hand sanitizer and soap and water is essential.
• Limit the use of shared items during the event. 
• And finally, wear a mask! 

The Most Effective Mask
Researchers at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) "have discovered that the best non-medical face mask to wear for protection against the novel coronavirus is one stitched with two layers of quilting fabric." By measuring the flow of respiratory droplets released during a cough or sneeze, researchers determined multiple layered masks were most effective in preventing the spread of airborne pathogens. With the proper mask the risk of forward leakage is diminished to less than 3 inches, but without a mask "jets of respiratory droplets could travel up to 12 feet."
If you are planning on participating in festivities this coming weekend, be sure you are prepared with the most effective mask for your health and the health of those around you. Have fun and celebrate safely!
