Friendly Friday One Kind Word can change someone's entire day

In these busy times, it may be a good idea to slow down . . . and be friendly. The antidote for your own worries just might be to engage in something you see suggested by one of MOTAL’s respected sites, Edutopia. It has brought good ideas to educators for decades in thoughtful and creative ways. That could be because it is sponsored by the George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF).


We at The Museum of Teaching and Learning hope you will explore the link to the “Friendly Friday” article for ideas that are not just for schools but are special for you right there at home as well. To reuse an old slogan, “Reach out and touch someone,” but do it safely.


Being friendly can start with saying something nice to another family member. Just remember that if you compliment one person, don’t leave the others out. And, yes, sometimes we compliment others on their clothing, but going beyond that to honor efforts and goodness can encourage the receiver and be remembered. We human beings tend to hang on to the hurtful words and deeds that have come our way; it takes a lot of kind words to dislodge them.


Write a note, draw a picture, put a post-it in a drawer where it will be sure to please and surprise. Maybe avoid technology and social media for a change. You do not have to give a gift; there will be plenty of time for that.
