“Diverse” Art Auction TODAY! What a Difference!

7/23/2021

Picture
MOTAL’s third “Slow Art Auction” continues the focus on women. It opens on Saturday, May 29 at 7 am Pacific time and continues through midnight, Wednesday, June 2. This time, all three images are quite different from one another—coming to us from widely contrasting places: a Nigerian village, New York City, and rural California. We are grateful to the donors for making this art gallery possible. Enjoy!

#1 – “Mother and Child”
This thorn carving above is from a Yoruba village in the Nigerian bush. The piece was created in the mid-1960s by a master wood carver at that time. The mother is preparing Gari root for stew, and her baby is content in the cloth sling on her back, a common way to carry a baby in Africa.
Fair Market Value: $60
Dimensions:
3" tall and 3" wide

HOW IT WORKS
Enjoy each work of art. Read about it. Think about how it fits into a certain era in art, and how it might appeal to someone in today’s world. Perhaps that someone is YOU, or it might be someone you could surprise with a gift.
