At birth, the infant brain weighs less than 3/4 of a pound and contains 100 billion neurons! 
The average newborn baby's brain doubles in size within the first few months of life, keeps growing to about 80% of adult size by age 3, and reaches 90% (nearly full grown) by the age of 5. That means a majority of crucial brain development occurs in a child's life before they are old enough to attend kindergarten. A newborn baby is equipped with all of the neurons they will have for the rest of their life, and the complex connections made between these billions of neurons during the first few years of life enable us to move, think, communicate, and learn. 


The period of learning that occurs before a child is exposed to formal education in school serves as the focus of our future exhibition entitled Brain Odyssey: From Conception to Kindergarten.
