Be An Education Investigator! Special Covid-19 Project in Education

11/22/2019

The Museum of Teaching and Learning is asking you, our readers and supporters, to ask around, look around, and search around. Ask your friends and colleagues if they know a teacher, parent, or student who has provided something noteworthy in any of the following education endeavors during the Covid-19 shutdown.
MOTAL will be working with a prominent East Coast museum to find particularly interesting artifacts (objects and digital photos) that represent thoughtful and creative ideas of individuals making a positive difference during this crisis.
DO NOT SEND ANY OBJECTS. Instead, contact Allison Koehler at [email protected] with a short description of what you have in mind, along with a photograph if possible. She will reply by email with several questions for you to answer.
Please keep submissions within these three areas of interest:

1.) School Meals: artifacts that relate to how schools are using their resources to continue to provide meals to students while campuses are closed. This could include photos of school buses being used to distribute food, signs identifying the program, posters or cards of appreciation from the community, menu lists or cooking instructions for meals, photos of the bagged lunches and workers assembling grab and go meals, and artifacts such as printed go bags, masks, shirts, and aprons that identify the school or school district associated with the food server.
2.) Graduation: artifacts related to Spring 2020 graduation ceremonies--mainly high school and colleges--but possibly Pre K, elementary, and middle/junior high if the story is exceptionally compelling.  This may include combinations of digital and in-person celebrations with related artifacts or community celebrations that creatively work within public health restrictions.

3.) Innovative revisions to curriculum and concrete examples of responses to challenges with remote learning and plans for school in Fall 2020. This includes a variety of school projects Pre-K to College such as student journals, math and reading assignments that incorporate discussions on the virus and exposure to Covid-19. Also possible: art projects that convey student perspectives of learning from home, examples of grading changes in report cards, or images of classrooms, teaching tools, adjustments in scheduling, and school facilities with adaptations to facilitate learning within a safe environment.
