As Promised! The Art Auction Begins MOTAL Holds Unique“Slow Art” Auction

5/7/2021

Picture
As previously announced, today is the day The Museum of Teaching and Learning provides a new Opportunity Day. We offer a silent auction featuring artworks that portray the theme “Images of Women.” It provides you with an opportunity to have some fun and gives MOTAL an opportunity to bring in some needed bucks.

Instead of putting all the donated works out for silent bids at once, we are going to present them two or three at a time so you can EXPERIENCE them. We are going to employ the concept of “Slow Art” that has been known throughout the art and museum world for the past decade. Slow Art means that you can slow down and take your time to savor each work of art. You will not have to rush through a gallery or a gala venue; you will not have to keep up a hectic pace, bumping into others as you try to view the work(s) that intrigue you. You will find directions for how to bid at the end of this post. Please enjoy our three selections for Week One of the Slow Art Auction. You will have three days to bid. There will be twelve works of art in all.
Piece #1 Native American Storyteller
Shown here is the famous artist’s signature for the storyteller pictured above. Artist Vera Fragua is from the Jemez Pueblo near Albuquerque in New Mexico. Storytelling is a tradition in the Native American culture and making images of storytellers is a significant art. This artist is described further in the link here.  To find out more about the Jemez Pueblo click here.
Fair Market Value (FMV): $150

Opening Donation: $60
($50 bid plus $10 shipping)

Piece #3 The Book, 1985
Famous artist Patrick Nagel (no relation to Greta, although artist Paul Nagel is) has a worldwide reputation for his striking images of women. This piece is among the best-known, and since it is an Alfred Van der Marck edition, it is more valuable than some other imprints. See link here.  A classy addition to your home; black metal poster frame with glass.
Fair Market Value (FMV): $475

Opening Donation: $175
($155 bid plus $20 shipping)

HOW IT WORKS
Enjoy each work of art. Read about it. Think about how it fits into a certain era in art, and how it might appeal to someone in today’s world. Perhaps that someone is YOU, or it might be someone you could surprise with a gift.
  • To bid, contact Norma Ames at [email protected]
  • Include your BID, name, email, phone number.
  • Each bid must be at the OPENING level or greater. (MOTAL honors published auction standards to set its opening bids.)
  • Norma will email you if you have competition.
  • You may submit an initial bid at fair market value . . . or more!

This week’s bidding remains open from
7:00 am Saturday, April 24
until 5:00 pm Monday, April 26, 2021.

You have three days. When bidding closes, Norma will contact the highest bidders for the current week’s art and give the winners directions how to pay through Network for Good, the safe and secure platform that MOTAL trusts to do its online collection of donations.
